QUEER ZINE TOUR IN EUROPE BUT....

hello all,

due to personal and bureaucratic problems i have to go back to europe as soon as early october. I'm forced to postpone our queer zine tour around canada for next spring. I'll be, though, able to start with the queer zine in europe during this fall. The Queer Zine Tour will be travelling at least (already confirmed) to Cologne, Toulouse, Roma and Barcelone.
I'm more than sorry to have to postpone this dream, but i refuse to cancel it.
I hope that for next spring there won't be any bureaucratic issue that would stop us for making this travel we have been working so hard on.
Receive all my thanks and see u later, and any one of you is welcome to come by barcelone in winter.

Take care and love,

lolagouine

OTTAWA LAUNCH THANK YOU+LOVE YOU

it's been a long time, but sometimes words are difficult to be found in this jungle of spring activities (almost summer).

it's been a long time and it's not because i feel lazy or because i've forgotten. It's because beauty and emotions need their time to be expressed through words. And i'm not good at that.

June 7th. Launch in ottawa. The official capital of canada. But it's not because of that that the 1st ever launch of #10 has taken place in the Bytown (old name for ottawa). It's because of the ladies.
The ladies are the organizers of the Ladyfest Ottawa www.ladyfestottawa.com , and it was their idea to make the zine launch in their city. You know, before all this idea of the queer zine tour was born, they invited me to come to their place and they told me, we want to organize an event for the zine.
I've never had this idea of making big launches, or any launch at all for a zine. And there they were, these amazing people i hardly know inviting me to a wonderfully mad idea. I answered what i felt. That's amazing.

No.
It was not amazing.
Amazing are things you can describe as amazing.
But during this zine launch i didn't have any words for it. Amazing is too short for it.

We arrived (we = sonia, amelia and me) with a craiglist lift in ottawa on friday evening. Then go out with best hostess erin, and go dancing with sparkling smile zaheen who took us to a gay bar where there was the ladies' night. I had problems getting into the bar coz i didn't have my ID card (so please remember: always have yr ID card when yr going into a bar in Ontario, Canada), but i finally got in when i took off my glasses (whatever but true). Dance dance dance surrounded by all kind of lesbian and queer people from ottawa.
Next morning we (erin, zaheen, nikoo, heather and me)had a nice meeting to get everything ready for the great evening. It was at this mment that erin told me about the puppet show stage. 6 feet tall!! like 2 m!
All red velvet and wood and such a wonderful painting "It's raining dykes". Puppets were awesome! and that little post-spider....i knew at this moment that there was gonna be difficult for me not to burst in tears during the show.
Specially that i'm such a drama queen....

In the afternoon we went around Bank st. with leslie, looking for last minute details, and sangria ingredients.
After sangria and pizza (yumyum), we headed to Venus Envy www.venusenvy.ca the best sex-shop in canada!! (true true). Because the launch was gonna be there, in this amazing space full with books, dildos, comixxx and ladies who OWN the space (yesyes).
The place is already gorgeous, but with the 50 dyke rain drops that Erin and Anton had created it seemed a dream come true.
It was already a dream come true.

DJ CPI played great music, as always, and the launch started. Jayda Kelsall began reading an extract for her zine Small Town Genesis.
You know when you know something magic is happening?
Because what she was reading was so linked to the cartoons i've made for #10. And even if i was not suppossed to read any extract from the zine, i couldn't but read this part that mirrored so much Jayda amazing writing.
Some blabla from us (leslie and me) and the puppet show started.

I went behing the stand because i didn't want all the public to see me crying.
I did my best, so just some tiny tears come off..
i'm still trying to figure out what those feelings are. Like. Some part of my comics were been played by great puppets. But indeed, those comics are extracts from my real life. It was like seeing a puppet show on my own life. And it felt so full of emotions and beauty.
No words will ever thank you enough, ladies, for those precious moments.

Going out afterwards with you, and feeling so full up of bigger emotions than me. Jenn asked me, how it felt, Heather asked me, how it felt to see your life on a show. Any of my answers will never be enough.
And i'm not good with words.

I'm happy that you're all (Jayda, Erin, Jenn, Zaheen, i hope all the others can make it too) coming to the montreal launch, 18th july.
I'm excited to have you slept at our flats.
I'm full of smiles and summer days, because you're coming to my second house, the ste.emilie skillshare.

I love you ladies.
Thanx for all your support.
Thanx for all your friendship.

Keep on fighting and having pleasure while doing it.

Ethnoculture is the LGBTTIQ... POC, Refugee, Immigrant festival of Montreal.
Happening the same weekend as a very important feminist conference, happening at the same time that the floral festival of the botanic garden, happening at the same time that the silkscreening stickers workshop i have to give at the St.Emilie skillshare.

Why things always happen at the same time is this city?

Back to Ethnoculture.

Not much people, but nice people. Very good food, 20-30 organizations, not much people but the people we don't get to see much in other LGBTTIQ...events. Big pleasure in that way.

A pleasure as big as the question where this invisibilization comes from.
I don't think there's only one answer. I think the answers are multiple and some of them are linked to the way we organize.
I was very happy of talking spanish to some other hispanophone queer people. ¿Dónde estamos?

Ethnoculture organisation has asked us for an interactif activity. I figured it out while drinking my coffee that same morning: what about people creating their own labels? Pushing further away all this labelling thing that happens in society AND in our communities. What about being ironic at the same time than questioning labels and making an interesting exercice of self-identification (oppossed to outside-identification).
I brought old office labels that i have been moving around for years. A letter stencil set, silver and golden pins and some black markers.
With Marie-Annick who was taking care of the stand with me, we decided that labels were too good and that we want to go further in this project. So we kept on writing all down while people were coming and going on the big room with DIY labels on them.
We're still thinking on what to do with this idea. Maybe a big exhibition going further and bigger as more people is taking part on it.
We'll check this up for our next date: ottawa june 7th!!! THE BIG LAUNCH DAY!!!
YOU'D BETTER BE READY FOR THAT!!!!

love and labels

Thanx so much again and again to the ste.emilie unicorns: you're the closest place to a home for me in this city.

the NEVER ENDING WINTER, Zaheen tells me while we eat a Beaver Tail in Ottawa.
(a beaver tail is a big sweet pancake, beaver tail-like but completely vegetarian, it's an ottawa speciality).
Big weekend.

13th march, thursday i do the launching of number 9 at home. It's quite calm, i would have liked to be more noisy but that's the way it is at winter when you have not announced to yr neighbours that you were having the biggest party ever.

Slept 5 hours in 2 days, because i'm always late for launchings.

12th march
7pm, Margo arrives at home and i ask her to write a text for he zine. It's good to have inspired people all around: she makes it and she handwrites it on the page.

8pm, hurry up for photocopying the cover...i've decided to do some painting on everyone of then. Good idea when you have time, but i DON'T have time.

9pm, first test with painting, i wanted blue but there's no blue, let's make it green then. Painting is great, what a shame that i have to make 100 of them before tomorrow morning...

11pm, text is finished, okok i scan everything it will take me no more than 1 hour.

1am, what the fuck, my lay out is not working at all, everything is mixed. I decide to go to bed, but...

2am, more green painting, my bedroom is a mess, i step on the painting and now there are green footprints all around.

3am, the lay out is making my brains explose. Okok, take a glass of porto, that will help. Finish painting at least.

4am, one page was missing i make it in 10 minutes, good good, painting is finished, lay out is finished, set alarm clock at 8, i have to be at the copy shop at 8.30 am....

13th march. The launching was calm and nice (i'm not telling you all about the copying, folding, puppy chewing covers and so on, you just can imagine). The zine looks great and it's so nice to see all these lovely people around. Mag comes fast as always and Rémi comes at the end of the evening. I'm missing the ladies organizing Back-Off, but the big feminist event is happening tomorrow, so i guess they are finishing all the unfinished.

This is the zine of the NEVER ENDING WINTER.

Back-Off was so big, so full...not even winter can't stop grrrls from going out.
I leave to Ottawa in the evening, i want a bed. Ottawa is great. No, Ottawa is not great, but people of Ladyfest Ottawa are. Ladyfest Ottawa is the oldest in the world and it happens in september. Take note and come.
I'm suddenly jealous of what queer people make in ottawa, because sometimes smaller communities are easier to organize, and montréal is sooooo big.
Nikoo, Erin, Zaheen and me we meet to start organizing ottawa launching of IT'S RAINING DYKES #10, early june.
Have i told you these ladies are amazingly great?

The NEVER ENDING WINTER.

Next time i'll be fighting against time for a launching it will be warm.
Some day it will be warm.

I have a WINTER SYNDROME, oestopath tells me that my body is not used to quebec winter, that's why i'm tired, sad and angry. I ask for a secret pill and she tells me that the only solution is living here for 7 winters, that's what the body needs to get used.

No way, next year i will be swimming at my dad's swimming pool (i tell you that because that's what they have been doing this same weekend at my hometown, in mediteranean southern spain). No way i'm stayin here for another february. I'll make like birds and fly south for winter.

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE A #9 OF IT'S RAINING DYKES?
(i never thought it would happen)

Take care and read slowly (it takes me weeks to make this zine, so do not hurry up for reading it!).

Write to me at lolagouine@yahoo.fr if you want the .pdf file of it to print it at home!
(please, write down your mail adress in your mail)

I can't say everything about it
In just one single song
I can't put how I feel in a package
And sell it back to everyone
But wait
There's another boy genius who's fucking gone
I hope the food tastes better in heaven
I know there's lots of rad queer boys up there
I hope everytime they talk to you
They know that they're lucky to be your friend
Cuz look
There's another boy genius who's fucking gone
And I wouldn't be so fucking mad so fucking
Pissed off if it wasn't so fucking wrong
It's all fucking wrong
It's not fair- It's not fair
It's not fair
But no one said life was easy
Yeah, but no one said-no one said
Nothing's supposed to happen, right?
No, no one told me anything
To prepare me for fucking this
There's another boy genius who's fucking gone
Don't tell me it don't matter
Don't tell me it don't matter
Don't tell me I've had three days to get over it
It won't go away
It just won't go away

GENDERPOO

Creative Commons License

Yes, since the time when people asked me for this clip! And now u can see it all over on the inter-nerd! Well, sometimes technology is great and this is one of the times.
I'm actually going quite lazy in my drawings. Number 9 of It's raining Dykes is still in the closet but ideas are coming for wonderful number 10, which is going to be a team work project on radical sexualities. Sounds nice hein?
I'm getting lazy because i'm sick of immigration papers. No, i'm not sick on them, i'm sick of the procedures of getting them. If i star on this i won't finish ever. So let's go back to genderpoo.

My nice little animation film. Wow that was when i was still in toulouse fighting to learn flash, and this is what i make as my first project...first and last big project. I'm doing some small ones at this very moment, but nothing to do with GENDERPOO film.
Music was made by my ex-girlfriend. And the rest of work, drawings, design, animation, wa made by myself.
This film has shown in sooooo many places, from berlin squats to montreal universities and spanish tv. The project was not quite ever finished, so maybe i'll get back to it some day. As long as so many people are afraid of getting into public wc, this project will be necessary.
I have a thing with toilettes. Is it still one of the only places where we publicly segregate biological sexes: u're A or u're B. That's all. And that's why is such a big nightmare for us boiz, hairy dykes, trannies, make-up faggots, etc.
Let's go further, and think of toilettes as the 2 boxes where society wants to keep us locked. The Good Woman, the Good Man. How many people get excluded then? Sex workers, travestites, masturbaters, HIV positifs, fat people, into-drugs (including prozac) folks, handi trans, questioning people, etc....
I still wonder if somebody really fits in those boxes....

take care
