great launching of #8 on thursday the 22 nov 2007 at L'Amère à boire, the micro-brasserie at St.Denis (montreal) where the feminist happy hour took place. Great launching because there were so many new faces and it makes so fucking good to see that i don't know 70% of the feminist french-speaking community in montreal. It makes me think, that if i add all the feminist and queer anglophone people i don't know....THAT REALLY MAKES AN IMPRESSIVE NUMBER OF FEMINIST AND QUEER PEOPLE!
isn't that great?
it means we're really A BIG STRONG BUNCH OF PEOPLE!
and then this weekend was the expozine montreal.
except for the fact that the guys on the stand on my left were jerks (they were so jerks that i was forced to tell them), it was really amazing. People do really good stuff. I'm impressed.
What i love the most is the fact of meeting queer and feminist distro coming fom toronto, ottawa and montreal! What? yes, montreal has another riot feminist queer punk distro and i didn't know it!?
They work mostly with english-speaking zines, really cool stuff and people with pink hair: great t-shirts. interesting zines on indegenous issues (which i don't have for the moment), wymen health, and even a collectif zine by grrrlz from europe and north-america. And i din't know this? Specially that some people i know in europe have worked for this zine! U guess it: i fall in love with this distro and hope we'll work together:
UNDER THE PAVEMENT (anarcho/feminist distro):
I also learnt that there's going to be a queer zine and art festival in toronto next summer...
and i met really nice people doing very interesting queer and not queer stuff. Microcosm were there with their huge stand of great books and zines, People's Potato, SO MTL Skillshare, L'Insoumise (stand neighbours on the right)...and other great people and things i cannot even remember their names (sorry!!!)
Anyway, it means i've got so many new zines to share with all of you! I discover that i will be distributing 132 queer and feminist zines from now on!!! I'm always starving on zines so please send yours to me! I try to get my brains in order to start a real distro. I know i already do a distro but i need to find at least a name.
I got all the Doris i could (and u should get them aswell, they're great), and a lot of zines on QPOC, race riot, ableism and classism within queer community, somme issues of redwire (indegenous activist magazine), feminist activism in palestina and southeast asia, a big mama zine, angry grrrls collectif zines and some other nice stuff (as u see almost all is in english).
So back to the beginning, i was a little bit tired of moving my distro from one place to another. Sometimes i feel quite alone while i pull my boxes under the snow or i have to be behind a table for hours while all my friends are talking and having fun with each other. The expo-zine was a real good natural pill, i feel much better, motivation is bursting all over me and my bed where i read all my new zines.
Keep doing zines and diy stuff.
Keep distributing, sending, receiving, meeting new people, going to parties, festivals, and pulling boxes in the metro, under the snow, under the rain.
Keep on fighting against copy machines, get free copies as much as u can.
I almost forget!
if u want to get the .pdf file of #8 get in touch with me
don't send a message through the blog as i won't get yr mail (so i won't be able to send u back the .pdf file!). And remember it's in letter format, which is a little bit different from european A4 format, but i'm sure u'll get to print it.
